Interesting vintage hand-formed terracotta pottery vessel featuring multiple applied human face/effigy decorations around the exterior. The rounded vessel rests on small molded feet and has a wide open mouth at the top.
Several of the stylized faces retain traces of a pale or white surface decoration, contrasting with the warm reddish-brown earthenware body. The pottery has a deliberately primitive, archaeological-inspired appearance with hand-worked details and an aged surface.
Measures approximately 5 inches across and about 3½ inches high based on the photographs.
No visible maker’s mark.
This piece is being offered as a vintage Pre-Columbian / Mesoamerican-style decorative pottery vessel or reproduction. Its actual geographic origin and age have not been authenticated, and it is not being represented as an excavated archaeological artifact.
Condition shows age-related surface wear, discoloration, abrasions and losses/wear to portions of the applied decoration. Please review all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
A wonderful display piece for a collection of folk pottery, tribal-inspired art, archaeological reproductions, ethnographic decor or curiosities.
