Original French theatre program from Théâtre Babylone, 38 Bd Raspail, Paris, for "Victime du Devoir" ("Victim of Duty"), a two-act play by Eugène Ionesco, staged by Jacques Mauclair with music by Pauline Campiche and décor by Jacques Noël. Cast list includes Tsilla Shelton, R.-J. Chauffard, Jacques Mauclair, and Pierre Marielle. Striking cover art of a bull/ox with wings in bold black brushwork. A wonderful piece of Theatre of the Absurd history — Théâtre Babylone was the venue that premiered Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" the previous year. Extra layer of provenance: the previous owner left a dated, handwritten review in ink on the back cover (Oct 18 '54) critiquing the "excellent characterizations," "Camino Real style," and "flashbacks," plus a small hand-sketched bull's head and Métro directions. Interior also carries a period Champagne de Castellane ad. Measures approx. 6" x 8", saddle-stitched. Light corner creasing, mild toning, small closed tear at spine, ink annotations as noted (adds significant provenance/interest). AS IS.
