This is a wonderfully decorative vintage rooster-shaped covered basket, handwoven from bamboo/rattan with applied wood or bamboo feather details. The rooster’s head lifts off to reveal a surprisingly roomy woven storage compartment inside the body. It has painted red comb and wattle, carved beak, dimensional wings and tail, and stands on a rustic carved base. The original interior label reads “Shanghai Handicrafts – Made in the People’s Republic of China.”

From your ruler photos, it appears to be approximately 12½–13 inches tall and roughly 8 inches long, give or take a little depending on where the tail is measured. The woven construction and export label suggest a mid-to-late 20th-century Chinese handicraft/export piece, likely circa 1970s–1980s. I would avoid calling it an antique.

Condition looks quite good overall for its age, with attractive patina and normal minor wear to the woven and painted surfaces. I do see a little looseness/wear around portions of the tail weaving, so I would mention minor age-related wear to the wicker/rattan and let the photographs document it.
